Austin, TX (WLTX) --- Junior designated player Ashlyn Masters had a career day Friday as South Carolina took on Houston in the opening game of the NCAA Regional in Austin. Masters drove in all six Gamecock runs on the way to a 6-4 victory.
Houston took the lead in the first inning before Masters set the tone in the third frame. With the bases loaded, Masters unloaded on a 0-2 pitch that was sent over the left field wall to give USC a 4-1 lead.
The Cougars would tie the game in the sixth inning with three runs. But it would Masters again who would deliver. An RBI double in the top of the seventh inning would prove to be the deciding play.
Redshirt sophomore Julie Sarratt earned the win. South Carolina will face Texas Saturday at noon.
