Gene Cone Goes To The Disabled List

Columbia Fireflies outfielder Gene Cone has been placed on the disabled list with what the team is calling a "leg injury".

The former Spring Valley and USC standout is currently batting .244 and leads the South Atlantic League with 42 walks.

Cone was a 10th-round draft pick by the Mets in the 2016 MLB draft. Ian Strom, a 22nd-round selection last year out of Massachussetts has been brought up from the Short Season-A club in Brooklyn to fill the roster spot.

The Fireflies will return home Friday to open up a series with the Rome Braves.
