High School Football Schedule Adjusted Again

The executive committee of the South Carolina High School League voted 10-2 to push the end of the regular season back to Nov. 11 because of schools in the lower part of the state are still dealing with the effects of Hurricane Matthew.

The previous week, the High School League had added one week to the regular season, which had been scheduled to end Oct. 28. Having added two weeks, the football playoffs are scheduled to begin Nov. 18.

The state championships are scheduled for Dec. 16 and 17. The Class A and AA games will be at Benedict College and the Class AAA, AAAA and AAAAA games at Williams-Brice Stadium. Those games will overlap with the Shrine Bowl.

The ruling body had already voted to push  back the playoffs one week which would have put title games on the same weekend as the North-South All-Star game, the same scenario in 2015 when Midlands teams were affected by the Columbia Flood. But now, those teams vying for state titles will be preparing the same week as the South Carolina team is in Spartanburg getting ready to face the North Carolina Shrine Bowl.
