Mark Kingston has won at Illinois State and South Florida. Now, he will get his chance at USC.
Kingston will be hired as USC's new head baseball coach. The news was first reported by WFLA-TV in Tampa.
For the past three years, Kingston has been in Tampa where he guided the USF program to two NCAA appearances. Kingston guided the Bulls to a 42-19 mark in 2017, the first time since 1996 that the team had reached the 40-win mark. When Kingston led the Bulls to the NCAA Regionals in 2015, it marked the first time since 2002 that South Florida was a player in the post-season.
Before coming to USF, Kingston was at Illinois State where he led that prgoram to two MVC regular season championships, one conference tournament title and twice broke the program's single-season wins record.
His playing career inlcuded a five-year stint in the Milwaukee and Chicago Cubs organizations. He is a UNC graduate who was a teammate of former USC head baseball coach Chad Holbrook.
USC's Board of Trustees will meet Friday morning and a new contract for Kingston is expected to be part of the agenda.
