Lexington Girls Claim 5A State Golf Title

The Lexington Wildcats ran away with the 5A golf title, winning by 38 strokes.

COLUMBIA, SC - An All-Midlands trio led the way in the Class AAAAA girls state championship with Lexington running away with the crown with White Knoll and Blythewood finishing second and third, respectively.

Lexington shot a two-day total of 645 followed by White Knoll (783) and Blythewood (801) as competition wrapped up at the Members Club at Wildewood.

Lexington's Gracyn Burgess, a Clemson commit, finished second in the individual standings with a two-day total of 154. The individual champion was Jensen Castle from White Knoll. Castle knocked down some clutch putts on Tuesday to pull ahead and win medalist honors by two strokes (152)

The Wildcats are no strangers to winning state championships in golf, after taking 11 of the last 13 championships in the 4A ranks.

But the new classification saw the Wildcats elevated to AAAAA where they will go down as the first state championship in girls golf following reclassification.
