Lexington To Host 2018 CPL All-Star Show

The Coastal Plain League All-Star Show is set for July 8-9 of 2018.

For the second straight year, the Midlands will host an All-Star game on the diamond.

The 2018 Coastal Plain League All-Show is coming to the Lexington County Baseball Stadium. This marks the second time the franchise has hosted the CPL All-Stars. In 2007, the team was in Columbia and the game was played at Capital City Stadium.

Blowfish President Bill Shanahan has overseen seven previous All-Star games. He was in charge of the Capital City Bombers when that was the host team for the 1992 South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

The 2018 All-Star game will feature a home run derby and fan fest on July 8 with the game set for July 9.

"We're so excited the Coastal Plain League has awarded the Lexington County Blowfish the 2018 All-Star Show," Shanahan said.

"It's not just an All-Star Game when you're in Lexington County. It's going to be a show with a home run derby, of course the game in July of 2018, the midsummer classic."

Blowfish head coach Jonathan Johnson says the game will be a great opportunity to showcase the passion that fans in Lexington County have for the sport as well as how the county will be a good host.

"To get an All-Star Game, it's more than saying 'We'll take it. We'll host it'," Johnson said.

"You've got to have the facilities. You've got to have the community to get around it. You've got to have an owner to promote it. So, it speaks highly of Bill Shanahan. It speaks highly of the Blowfish. It speaks highly of Lexington County and this beautiful facility that they built here in Lexington."
