(WLTX) -- Former South Carolina Gamecocks' first baseman Justin Smoak was named a starter for the American League in Major League Baseball's All-Star Game.
It's Smoak's first All-Star appearance in his eight-year major league career. Smoak is currently the Toronto Blue Jays first baseman.
Smoak is currently hitting .303 and has a career-high 22 home runs and 52 RBIs. He leads the team in both home runs and RBIs
Smoak played for the Gamecocks from 2006-08, and is the school's all-time leader in home runs.
The All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 11, at Marlins Park in Miami.
