More Preseason Watch Lists For USC Players

He became the first sophomore in the history of the USC football program to be named a permanent team captain and now Hayden Hurst finds himself on the watch list for the Mackey Award which goes to college football's best tight end.

Hurst, a 6-5, 250-pounder from Jacksonville, set school records for tight ends with 48 receptions and with 616 receiving yards.

The Mackey Award is given in honor of former NFL tight end John Mackey.

Up front, USC fifth-year senior Alan Knott is on the watch list for the Rimington Trophy which goes to the nation's best center. That award is named after former Nebraska great Dave Rimington who was a consensus first-team All-American center and also the Outland Trophy’s only two-time winner as the nation’s best interior lineman.

At 6-4, 290 pounds, Knott leads the team with 29 career starts.
