Clemson Getting A Little Clarity On Quarterbacks

Clemson's first practice in pads on Tuesday may have given head coach Dabo Swinney more clarity on who will be his starting quarterback.

CLEMSON, SC - After all the talking during the offseason and the preseason the pads did the talking today in the Upstate. Tuesday was hit day for the Clemson Tigers. They had their first practice in full pads.

The defending national champions are one step closer to knowing exactly what they're working with, personnel wise, as they try to defend their national and ACC title.

Dabo Swinney may have gotten closer to deciding who his starting quarterback will be. But After today's practice it's still up in the air.

"Kelly (Bryant) has had five really good days and just has an excellent command. Zerrick (Cooper) and Hunter (Johnson) just great potential and doing an excellent job as well but Kelly is just a little more consistent in his decision making. Just making the right decision," Swinney said.

The head coach also may have a another young quarterback in the mix with freshman Chase Brice out of Grayson High School. Brice played with current USC DB Jamyest Williams.

"He has really displayed a great aptitude to pick it up. He's doing a good job with the protections and he's still making up some ground but he's sharp and has some done some really good things. But from all four of those guys I'm really encouraged by what I see."

The Tigers host Kent State on Saturday September 2nd for a noon kickoff for their season opener and who is under center for that opener remains to be seen.
