Gamecock Soccer Team Clinches First Final Four Berth

South Carolina head coach Shelley Smith, seniors Lindsey Lane and Savannah McCashill recap their 2-0 win over Florida in the Elite 8 and what it feels like to make history for the program as they advance to their first ever Final Four.

COLUMBIA, SC - The South Carolina women's soccer team are in the Elite 8 match for the third time in four years. You could say it's old hat for them but after two goals they have a new look as they go to the Final Four for the very first time.

Friday night the Gamecocks faced SEC rival Florida in Stone Stadium. The winner advances to the College Cup in Orlando for the Final Four.

13 minutes into the match Lindsey Lane, the senior, sends the ball into the box and Grace Fisk, the SEC Defensive Player of the year shows off some offense with the header. Her third goal of the year gives USC the 1-0 lead.

Florida tried to mount a comeback in the second half as they peppered USC with 13 shots in the game. They put four shots on goal, the most USC has allowed all tournament but Mikayla Krezcowski made four crucial saves for the Gamecocks.

Then with 13 minutes left in the match. Lane puts the game away. She nets her third goal of the year with a deep shot to give USC a 2-0 lead. That was the nail in the coffin for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina is headed to the Final 4 for the first time in program history with a 2-0 win over Florida.

The Gamecocks are Orlando bound. They will play fellow No.1 seed Stanford in the national semifinal next week.
