Martin Faces Challenges With Passion and Perserverance

Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Frank Martin's first season at USC was also the first losing season of his head coaching career.

With a 7-12 record and an 0-6 SEC record, he is headed for another season below .500.

However, if you are looking for a coach who is deflated about his situation, then you might be in for a surprise.

Speaking Tuesday to preview the Texas A&M game, Martin described this process as "an unbelieveable experience".

"It's not fun," he said.

"I don't go home and celebrate every night."

Martin did say that ultimately, the challenges he has faced at USC will be "healthy" for his career.

"When things are going good, you aren't challenged," said Martin who had four NCAA trips in five years at Kansas State prior to coming to Carolina.

"To figure out a way to win, you have to teach better," said Martin.

"You have to be more patient, maybe motivate a little better. When you go through difficult moments and you embrace it, when it's over, then I will be much better as a coach."

However, Martin's emphasis on patience doesn't mean he is any less demanding.

But as much as Martin demands from his players, the coach is also looking in the mirror and making a few demands from himself.
