USC Equestrian Defeats Texas A&M In Dramatic Fashion

BLYTHEWOOD, SC - The South Carolina Gamecocks equestrian team came through in the clutch against the number two team in the country Sunday morning. They eeked past Georgia 9-8 with the deciding point coming in the final event and that result was even closer.

Paige Stopperich won her matchup by .5 to give South Carolina the victory at One Wood Farm in Blythewood, SC. The match was tied 8-8 before Stopperich made her final point.

Stopperich, a junior from Pittsburgh, PA, had a career day. She had the top score in horsemanship and earned her first Most Outstanding Player award and first win of her career.

Junior Lauren Fabiano and freshman Raegan Renfroe also earned M.O.P honors for the first time this year. Renfroe added her first career win as well.

Georgia's 9-8 loss is their first conference meet of the season.

This is the first regular season win over the Bulldogs since a 2011 home meet for the Gamecocks and their first win over Georgia since 2015 in the national final.

The win propels the Gamecocks to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. The win over Georgia is their second win over a top five team this season.

Next up for USC is No.10 New Mexico State. That meet will take place Friday, October 21 at 2 pm at home in in One Wood Farm in Blythewood.
