Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- After four practices, USC's fifth saw the Gamecocks put on full pads and hold a scrimmage near the end of the workout.
USC head football coach Steve Spurrier said it was sloppy at times, but considering this is just the fifth practice and third in a row, the crispness and sound fundamental technique will come in time.
"We're just practicing, practicing a lot of the young guys," said Spurrier.
"A lot of these walk-on kids are pretty good players. It's sort of neat to have them out here. Quarterback-wise, Dylan (Thompson) threw some good ones and I think Perry Orth threw some good ones. Overall, it was sort of sloppy, about what you'd expect."
The team will work out four days next week, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with Saturday's practice being the first official scrimmage of the spring.
