USC Linebacker Suspended for Two Games

South Carolina Linebacker Sherrod Pittman was suspended for two games prior to Saturday's game against Mississippi State.

STARKVILLE, MISS. — For the second straight week USC coach Will Muschamp announced the suspension of a player as linebacker Sherrod Pittman missed the Mississippi State contest.

A redshirt freshman linebacker from Jacksonville, Florida, Pittman is serving a two-game suspension which means he will also not compete in the Gamecocks home opener against East Carolina on Sept. 17.

Prior to USC’s opener against Vanderbilt, offensive linemen Alan Knott and Christian Pellage served one-game suspensions for violation of team rules, while defensive lineman Abu Lamin began a three game suspension.

Knott started for the Gamecocks at center against Mississippi State.

Pittman sat out the 2015 campaign with a broken leg after enrolling in school in January of that year.

He was not listed on the Gamecocks most recent depth chart, but was considered a player that could contribute this season.
