Panthers Focused On Team Going Into Training Camp

SPARTANBURG, SC - It's become an annual tradition during the summer at Wofford University and that tradition is NFL football. What maybe untraditional is the current state of the Carolina Panthers front office. But that didn't stop the Panthers from kicking off their training camp at Gibbs Stadium without a hitch.

Fans came from all over to get a look at the stars. Cam Newton looked sharp as he continues to rehab an injured shoulder from last season.

Linebacker Luke Kuechly looked sharp and spry and ready to go. No hangover from a series of concussion that cut his 2016 short.

Fans also got their first look at their new draft picks like Christian McCaffery. He wowed the fans with some nice runs and will definitely earn touches in a backfield led by veteran Jonathan Stewart.

Clemson's Ben Boulware got some work in with the second and third group of linebackers in his very first NFL Training Camp.

You can't forget about South Carolina product Damiere Byd who will be a receiver and return man for the Panthers.

Head coach Ron Rivera was pleased with what he saw from his quarterback as the Panthers try to get back on top of the NFC South Division this season.

A week before training camp Dave Gettleman was fired from his general manager position with the franchise. A number of top players are in contract negotiations like Pro Bowlers Greg Olsen and Thomas Davis. But the players are focused on the task at hand.

"The things that happened upstairs within the organization is out of our control. We have no control whatsoever over that. I think that we just need to keep that perspective," Thomas said. "Our job and our role here is come in and win football games. When decisions are made like the decision that was made last week, as players, we have to live it. We have line up. We have to play."

The Panthers training camp continues through August 13 at Wofford University.
