Report: 'Good Chance' Tim Tebow to Play for Fireflies

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Could former Heisman Trophy winner  Tim Tebow suit up for the Columbia Fireflies this season? It's possible, according to one report.

ESPN New York Mets reporter Adam Rubin was asked on Twitter about the chances that Tebow could join Columbia's minor league team this season. Rubin said that he had heard from someone with good knowledge that there's a "very good chance" Tebow could play for the team at some point in 2017.

Tebow signed a minor league contract  several months ago with the Mets, and the Fireflies are part of the Mets' minor league organization. Currently, he's playing for a fall league team in Arizona.

Of course, right now, this is still a lot of speculation, and how Tebow performs in the next several months in these winter and fall leagues will likely determine his fate.

Tebow, of course, won the Heisman and two national championships in football with the Florida Gators. While he played for the Denver Broncos several years ago, he's been unsuccessful in his efforts to get a permanent quarterback gig in the NFL.

He has not played baseball regularly since high school.
