Raleigh, NC (WLTX) - A South Carolina State University basketball player is "stabilized and conscious" after collapsing on the sidelines of Saturday's game.
The frightening incident happened as the Bulldogs were in Raleigh for a noon contest against NC State University.
The player has been identified as Tyvoris Solomon, a redshirt senior from Johns Island, South Carolina.
The incident began several minutes into the game. It's unclear what happened in the moments leading up to his collapse, but TV cameras caught players and coaches rushing toward the player on the bench. A few seconds later, players were seen fanning him.
At one point, the trainers began performing CPR on Solomon, who was motionless at the time. Eventually, he was loaded onto a stretcher and taken away to a local hospital.
SC State Coach Murray Garvin, who went to the hospital with Solomon, told WLTX in a text message that Solomon was awake and in stable condition.
ESPN's Jeff Goodman reported that Garvin told him Solomon's heart stopped and he had to be resuscitated by SC State's athletic trainer.
