COLUMBIA, SC - August will be an active month in Orangeburg Country. South Carolina State basketball head coach Murray Garvin will host a couple of camps in August but there's one that stands out.
Murray's foundation Garvin's Goals will have a free basketball called "The Back To School Bash". It's the first event for Murray's foundation.
He stopped in our studios this week and let us know there are providing a lot more than just basketball skills.
"We're going to give backpacks and school supplies to the first 300 young people from the Orangeburg and surrounding communities that come in and participate in our event," Garvin said. "The draw is basketball but we're going to hit them over the head with school supplies and try to encourage the kids to be enthusiastic and give great effort in the classroom as we go into another school year."
But that's not it. The camp will also offer CPR training as well.
Check out Coach Garvin's full in studio segment in the video above for more details on the August events and a preview of the Bulldogs 2017-2018 season.
