The recent parade of Midlands basketball players making their way to Oxford continued Monday night with the Rebels landing Irmo native Devontae Shuler who announced on twitter he was choosing the Rebels over USC and Oklahoma State.
Shuler is the third player in the last few years to go from Columbia to Oxford. Most recently, Lower Richland graduate MJ Rhett played his senior season with the Rebels in 2014-15.
Former Dutch Fork standout Murphy Holloway, who had two stints at Ole Miss sandwiched around a one-year stop at USC, is the all-time leading rebounder for the Rebels. He provided Shuler with information about the Ole Miss program which obviously played a role in Shuler's decision.
A four-star shooting guard, Shuler is one of the most coveted players in the country in part because of his ability to shoot, drive and play outstanding defense. He averaged a little more than 10 points per game last season for the Warriors who came to Columbia last December and won the Chick-FIl-A Classic at Richland Northeast High School. Shuler was named All-Tournament.
