Sindarius Thornwell WIth A Strong Start To Summer League

The Summer League showdown between the Clippers and the Lakers in Las Vegas saw former USC guard SIndarius Thornwell score 26 points in his first NBA game, leading the Clippers to a 96-93 overtime win over the Lakers in battle of L.A. showcased in Las Vegas.

The reigning SEC Player of the Year was 6-of-13 from the field, 0-for-4 from beyond the arc and 14-of-18 from the free throw line. He also contributed five rebounds, two steals and one assist. Thornwell scored the first seven points in the overtime period to help seal the victory for the Clippers. His 26 points were a team-high for the third-leading scorer in USC history.

Thornwell was a second-round selection in last month's NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks who after taking him with the 48th overall selection, immediately traded him to the Clippers.

Former News19 Player of the Week Brice Johnson from Edisto had an equally strong performance for the Clippers with 23 points and game-highs with seven rebounds and three blocks. A first -round draft pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, Johnson had a back injury in his rookie season that slowed his development. But after spending a good portion of 2016 in the D League, Johnson's performance Friday suggests he is ready to become a consistent player for the Clippers.

On the other bench, Spring Valley product and former USC guard PJ Dozier did not see any action, Dozier was a free agent signee by the Lakers.
