Tebow Back In Columbia For USC-Clemson

Tim Tebow and Marcus Spears, both former SEC standouts, break down the matchup between the Gamecocks and the Tigers.

Tim Tebow is no stranger to Columbia. In fact, it was a second home of sorts earlier this year when was a rookie outfielder with the Columbia Fireflies. The former Florida and NFL quarterback transitioned to baseball and from early April to late June, he was the face of the Fireflies franchise before was promoted to high-A and the St. Lucie Mets in Florida.

Tebow was back in Columbia on Friday but instead of a bat and glove, his uniform was a long-sleeved white shirt with a headset. Tebow was on the SEC Nation set at Gamecock Park where he and Marcus Spears taped various segments which aired on the SEC Network.

The two former SEC football players spent a few minutes breaking down the USC-Clemson matchup and as he mentioned, football is about matchups.

"I think South Carolina can really match up really well in this game," Tebow said.

"If they can stop the run, first and second down, put Clemson in third and long situations. They do not thrive in those situations. I think that will be the key to their success and then on the flip side, being able to hit some big plays. I think (USC tight end) Hayden Hurst will be huge in this game. Being able to get some one-on-one matchups in man coverage against linebackers, would be big."

Tebow played at Florida, while Spears starred at LSU where current USC head coach Will Muschamp was the defensive coordinator. Spears is very high on what Muschamp brings to the table in a matchup with the defending national champion.

"Nobody picked South Carolina to win eight games this year,' Spears said.

"I had them winning seven. I didn't have them winning eight. When you look at this game, a rival game, he's (Muschamp) going to have an opportunity to get this game in the fourth quarter and see what happens, Now with that being said, could it be a blowout? Absolutely. But I doubt it's going to go that way because he's going to have these dudes ready to play."
