Texas A&M Nearing Announcement of New Football Coach

Texas A&M's Board of Regents met on-campus Thursday to discuss the hiring of the Aggies' new football coach.

No action was taken Thursday by Texas A&M's Board of Regents after they met in executive session for over two hours, to discuss the ins and outs of hiring a new football coach. A&M has long been expected to hire Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher.

A&M chancellor John Sharp said after the meeting that the board would reconvene in the coming days, in all likelihood to approve the hiring of Fisher. Travis Brown of the Bryan-College Station Eagle reported late Thursday that Fisher would arrive in College Station Sunday afternoon, the Board would approve the hire Monday and Fisher would be introduced the same day.

Sharp told reporters Thursday afternoon that in the Aggies' new coach, he wants, "nothing serious, just one that'll win a national championship."

Fisher is currently finishing up his eighth season in Tallahassee and will hope to lead the Seminoles to a 36th consecutive bowl game if they can beat UL-Monroe Saturday. Once the game ends, Fisher is said to be headed straight for Aggieland, where A&M will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the nation.
