COLUMBIA, SC - He was a star at Ben Lippen high school and went on to become one of the best running backs in Citadel history. Now Columbia native Tyler Renew is trying to be a star for the Atlanta Falcons.
Renew signed an undrafted free agent deal with Atlanta on May first. After rookie mini camps and OTAs he sees the biggest difference between the NFL and college football.
"The playbook and the speed of the game definitely. You know competition level you go up, high school to college, college to professional ball, the speed of the game speeds up so you know learning to practice like those guys and compete like those guys everyday and learning how to be a pro has been the biggest adjustment," Renew said.
Now that he's in the building with the Falcons. Renew plans to stay there. He feels he's in the right place.
"The organization is phenomenal. I couldn't ask to walk into a better organization that's so welcoming and hard working. I mean from the second I stepped on the campus it was all about the competition and playing as hard as you can and giving it your best shot."
Renew is regarded as one of the keys guys to watch during training camp due to the depth of the backfield and Steve Sarkisian's offensive scheme which allows versatile fullbacks like Renew to thrive.
The Falcons start training camp today in Flowery Branch, GA.
