USC tight end Hayden Hurst is one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award which goes to the best tight end in college football.
The former walk-on is second on the team with 35 catches for 480 yards. He is in a logjam for second on the team in touchdowns receiving with two, although he does have one rushing touchdown this season.
The Mackey Award is named after the NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey who is considered to be the best ever to have played the tight end position.
