USC Women's Soccer Loses To UNC 1-0

After winning two consecutive NCAA matches by a 1-0 score, the top-seeded USC women's soccer team found itself in another 1-0 match Friday night but it was not the Gamecocks who were celebrating.

North Carolina's Madison Schultz sent a high arching shot into the top right corner of the net in the 22nd minute, the only goal of this NCAA Elite Eight contest, giving UNC a 1-0 win over USC.

Carolina was bidding for the program's first trip to the Final Four. Instead, USC's season ends with a 21-2-1 record.

The Gamecocks had their chances against the Tar Heels including a penalty kick by Sophie Groff which was turned away by Tar Heel goalkeeper Lindsey Harris.

South Carolina outshot the Tar Heels 16-14 for the match and put nine attempts on frame. The Tar Heels held a slight 6-5 advantage in corner kicks and put seven shots on target.
