West Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A new Charter High School broke ground yesterday in West Columbia.

The Gray Collegiate Academy's groundbreaking ceremony held Monday, on their new 50-acre plot on Leaphart Road in W. Columbia, is the start of a new public charter school that will provide 9th - 12th grade students with elite sports programs in addition to an accelerated collegiate academy curriculum.

Gray will help students earn college credits while attending the school, and can graduate with either an Associate in Arts Degree, or an accumulate 48-60 hours of college credits, increasing their scholarship opportunities.

The school has been authorized by the South Carolina Public Charter School District, and enrollments are open for the 2014/2015 school year on their website, www.graycollegiateacademy.org.
