Remember VHS tapes?
A South Carolina woman forgot about them, too. She spent a night in jail for faiing to return a moview she rented in 2005.
The movie rented by Kayla Michelle Finley was a VHS tape of Monster-in-Law, a comedy starring Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda, CNN reports Finley, 27 was arrested last week on misdemeanor charge involving the rental, reports WYFF in Greenville, S.C.
Finley had rented the movie from Dalton Videos in Pickens County, a movie rental company now out of business.
A woman identifying herself as Finley wrote on Fox21's Facebook page that she had gone to the police station to press charges of harassment and stalking on an unrelated issue. While there, police discovered an outstanding arrest warrant for Finley.
Pickens county sheriff's Chief Deputy Creed Hashe told WYFF4 that when Finley didn't return the movie years ago, the owner of Dalton Video had gone to a county magistrate who issued an arrest warrant.
"Some of you need to quit juding (sic) like you are. This is a bogus charge and everyone knows it," Finley worte.
On Twitter, people expressed incredulity that someone could be jailed for not returning a movie rental, including some who commented on Finley's movie selection.
