"Tara is my hero...she rescued me," say Jeremy Triantafilo, the little boy she saved.
On Tuesday, 4 year old Triantafilo was riding his bike outside his home. His mother Erica was nearby, watering a tree. Unbeknownst to them, their neighbor's dog was on the loose. By the time Erica turned around, the labrador-chow mix was chomping down on Jeremy's leg and dragging him across the pavement.
That's when Tara pounced. Seemingly out of nowhere, she flew in and swiped at the pooch. Tara chased him off--his proverbial tail between his legs. Tara was not pussyfooting around.
"I remember her hitting the dog, but seeing the video and seeing exactly what she did and chased that dog away... Seeing her turn to check on jeremy then returning to him,' Erica said. "She is my hero."
The dog's owner called 911.
Jeremy was rushed to a Bakersfield hospital, where he received 10 stitches. The dog was surrendered to animal control and will be euthanized. Jeremy's father was shocked by what he saw on the family's surveillance cameras.
"The police officer and I both commented on like wow, we've never seen a cat do that before," said Roger Triantafilo.
Jeremy is home, recovering, his pet cat keeping watch.
Since the attack the video has gone viral, as people have watched--and rewatched--it over and over again.
