Deputies say surveillance video from the Mobil gas station on Paxville Highway 261 shows 32-year-oldBrandon Lee Dubose taking Brandon Lee Dubose II out of a vanat12:45 pm Monday.

His common law wife was in the car with two other children when the little boy was taken.

Deputies say his 11-year-old stepdaughter jumped out of the car and tried to stop him, but Dubose knocked her down.

Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett says the abduction came about as a result of an ongoing fight between Dubose and his common law wife.

"He wanted her scared, worried, crying that's what it was all about... That's what domestic violence is all about."

According to the sheriff, Dubose later sent a text message to the mother saying he would kill the child.

A deputy pulled over Dubose, but when the officer approached the vehicle, Garrett says the man said he wasn't going to jail, and pulled away. Officers say they pursued him until he reached a cornfield, where Dubose then jumped out of the vehicle with the child.
