Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have made two arrests and seized 21 gambling devices from two convenience stores and two homes.

Deputies say undercover officers played card games on the machines and received cash payoffs when they won.

The Springdale police department has arrested two men, 47-year-old Darryl Taylor and 47-year-old Gregory Guess in connection with running an illegal gambling.

"Undercover officers went in, played games on the video gambling devices, and received cash pay offs at those locations," said Major John Allard with the Lexington Sheriff's Department.

Officers say three devices were found at the C-Mart at 658 Two Notch road, two were found at the MK Mini Mart at 668 Main Street in South Congaree, and a total of 16 more were found at a home on South Lake Drive and Watling Road.

"Our focus is on removing the machines from the businesses so that people cannot go there and illegally gamble. That is what our focus is," said Allard.

Under South Carolina law, a magistrate must determine whether each individual gambling device is illegal.

"If we find out locations we will conduct undercover operations as we did here. And if we find that illegal gambling is occurring we will seize the machines as we've done in this case," said Allard.

Anyone with information about illegal video gambling devices is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
