Sumter, SC (WLTX) -- The Sumter County Coroner's office has determined that a baby found dead in a home died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Coroner Harvin Bullock tells News19 the 7-month-old boy had a fracture to the skull. Bullock said local officers and the State Law Enforcement Division will investigate the death.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Departmentsaid when authorities arrived at the boy's home on Alva Drive in Sumter, the mother said that the infant was discovered "tangled up" in a blanket after being placed in his bed the night before.

"We sent the child in for an autopsy and when we got the results back, it looks suspicious," said Captain Allen Dailey with the Sumter County Sheriff's Department.
