Columbia, SC (WLTX) - After the big win against the Georgia Bulldogs, the Gamecocks are now ranked 3rd in the country; the highest ranking since the "Black Magic" 1984 season.

Listening to Bob Fulton, the legendary voice of the USC Football team will bring chills to any die-hard Gamecocks fan; especially when he is talking about the Black Magic season.

"When the season kicked off, few experts would have predicted that USC would have soared to a top 10 ranking in the national polls," said Bob Fulton in a video about the 1984 team.

In 2011 the Gamecocks broke the schools all time winning record with 11 wins in a season.

This year they are 6-0 and are hoping this season can be another magical one.

The two teams have a lot of similarities, more specifically the defense. In 1984 they were known as the fire ants --- because they would swarm to the ball.

"Over the year they have developed a whole lot of pride about swarming and getting to the football," said Coach Joe Morrison of the 1984 Gamecocks.

This year is no different, with players like Jadeveon Clowney creating headaches for quarterbacks.

"South Carolina had proven a point that was obvious the entire season, the men in Garnett and Black were a team, the team that had no limits on the goals it could achieve and the excitement it could generate," said Fulton.

The Gamecocks are seeking their 7th win this season when they go on the road Saturday to play LSU.
