Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Columbia residents will have their chance to lace up some skates and hit the ice this winter downtown at Boyd Plaza.
Jeff Caton, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Columbia says, "An ice skating rink is just a unique opportunity, especially in the south, in an area like Columbia."
"We think it is going to have a huge impact not only on the business community, but to give people something to do during the holiday season, to get them in the mood and to be excited about the holidays as they approach," according to Caton.
Thanks to the City of Columbia Parks and Recreation partnering with Magic Ice U.S.A., Inc., a 50 foot wide by 63 foot long synthetic ice-skating rink will be opening in the Plaza on November 22nd, just in time for Thanksgiving.
The rink will be open in front of the Columbia Museum of Art until January 6 of 2013.
