Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A former SouthCarolina state trooper was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after a fight outside the Colonial Life Arena Friday.
Columbia Police say they arrested 38-year-old Eric Wayne Sox after they told him to leave the parking lot area and he refused.
Country musician Eric Church was performing at the Colonial Life Arena that night.
A spokesperson with the Department of Public Safety tells News19 that Sox was terminated on Monday. Sox had been with the department since 2000 and served with Troop 7 which serves areas around Orangeburg County.
Officers say Sox was unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech, and smelled of alcohol. According to the incident report, when an officer asked Sox to leave, he raised his middle finger and refused to move.
The arresting officer also says Sox sat in the front passenger seat of a car and would not move. The officer writes in his report that everal USC Police officers witnessed the incident and helped make the arrest. They say after Sox was arrested, he told them he was a corporal with the highway patrol.
