Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- South Carolina House Representative Bill Chumly, (R-SC 35) prefiled legislation Tuesday to render Obama's health care act null and void in South Carolina.

Citing South Carolina's state sovereignty, the bill is intended to "protect families and businesses from Obamacare."

Chumly's press release goes on to say the bill is "An Act to render null and void certain unconstitutional laws enacted by the Congress of The United States taking control over the health insurance industry and mandating that individuals purchase health insurance under threat of penalty."

Representative Chumly is quoted: "Stopping Obamacare is the right thing to do. Obamacare will negatively impact our state and hurt South Carolinians and our small businesses. Additionally it will place an unending financial burden on our children and grandchildren."

An almost identical bill is expected to be introduced in the South Carolina Senate.
