Valparaiso, IN (Sports Network) - Ryan Broekhoff scored 17 points, leading four teammates in double figures, as the Valparaiso Crusaders earned an 89-69 win over the IUPUI Jaguars in non-conference play at the Athletics- Recreation Center.
Broekhoff was 6-of-11 from the field and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds as the Crusaders (8-4) took their second win in three games and kept their home record unblemished at 6-0. Kevin Van Wijk (15 points), Matt Kenney (15), Ben Boggs (12), and Bobby Capobianco (10) were the four other players in double figures for the hosts.
John Hart led all scorers with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting as IUPUI (4-10) lost its second in a row and continues to struggle away from home, now 0-6 in true road games. Donovan Gibbs scored 11 points with seven rebounds while Greg Rice managed 11 points and Ian Chiles added 10.
The Crusaders led 40-38 at the break after both teams shot well from the field, with Valpo at 53.6 percent and IUPUI at 50.0 percent.
In the second half the Crusaders were 14-of-15 at the free-throw line as they pulled away for the victory.
Valpo dominated the boards, earning a 41-21 rebounding edge, helping the squad to overcome a disappointing 4-of-21 showing beyond the arc.
