Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Seventeen residents at the Hunters Way Apartment are without a home after a fire ripped through their home Friday night and resulting in $300,000 in damage.

"Just black smokes and the windows started breaking, the fire was so strong," said Jacqueline Solomon, a resident at the apartment complex on Percival road.

Solomon was in her apartment doing her hair, that's when she noticed smoke coming from the vent.

"All I saw was black smoke and all I thought was get out, grab everyone and get out," said Solomon.

She grabbed her three month old son and escaped the fire.

"I just thought about everyone else and started beating on the doors, letting everyone know to just get out. All my pictures, my baby's brand new Christmas stuff, everything is gone."

She says she is thankful to still have her life despite losing everything.

"I don't know where I am going from here but I just leave it up to the Lord, just hope there is another day that I can start all over."

The Red Cross is assisting the residents with temporary housing and financial assistance.
