Elgin, SC (WLTX) - The Kershaw County Sheriff's department is accusing an Elgin town councilman of damaging a local gun range.

Norman Allen "Bubba" Ernst, 41, is charged with malicious injury to property.

Sheriff Jim Matthews says Ernst and the operator of a gun range that's located on Ernst's propertyhave been in a disagreement over the lease agreement. According to deputies, Ernstsaid the noise from the gun range was interfering with his business, and wanted to shut the gun range down.

The gun range operator refused to close, and Ernst eventually got an eviction notice.

Later, the operator reported five different acts of vandalism at the range. Matthews saysErnst wrecked his vehicle in the fence of the property several times. The sheriff says Ernst also moved tires to block patrons from entering the range.

On January 26, Matthews says a witnesses saw two men damaging the range. Later, the witnesses picked Ernst out of a photo lineup as one of the men.
