Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) --- Tim Carter has resigned as the head men's basketball coach at South Carolina State, effective immediately.

Associate head coach Murray Garvin will take over as interim head coach.

Carter was in his sixth season in Orangeburg. Prior to taking over the S.C. State program, he was an assistant at Florida State for one season. He was also a head coach at Texas-San Antonio.

In his six years with the Bulldogs, Carter had just two winning seasons. His career record was 67-108. This year's team is currently 4-17 and 0-8 in the MEAC. In fact, the Bulldogs have lost their last 24 conference games.
