Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Lawmakers have proposed a ban on South Carolina colleges and universities using the state plane to recruit athletes.

The ban was proposed as a proviso to the budget and lawmakers says it would apply to every school in the state

Governor Nikki Haley has recently come under fire for allowing Clemson, her alma mater, to frequently use the state plane to recruit for athletics programs. However, she saysshe's okaywith the proposal.

"I think that that's up to the legislature to decide, I have no problem with them eliminating that," Haley said. "Clemson University -- when I first saw it, they do reimburse. But we do have to decide what is the state place intended to be used for. So if they decide that want to eliminate that, I'm happy with that, that's fine."

The proposed ban would have to be approved as part of the state budget to go into effect.
