Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Any good parent will tell you that their job extended past"mom" and "dad", but to"teacher"as well. There's a teacher at John P.Thomas Elementary with the reverse mentality; sometimes as teacher you have to act like the parent.

You just have to ask 2nd grade teacher Lindsey Click one question and it's clear, "People say, 'do you have kids?'," jokes Click, "I say yeah... twenty-one of them!"

Ms. Click loves being a teacher.

"I call them my babies, my kids. I have to treat them the way I would want somebody to treat my children if it was their teacher."

Following in her mother's footsteps, teaching is a career she knew would not always be easy.

"It's not a glorious lifestyle," Click explains. "You don't always get all the credit you deserve but it's worth it because of the kids. I mean, they're the reason I come to work every day."

2nd grade student, Jerney Wilson, may only be a kid but she already knows the value of school.

"You get to learn more stuff and that means you get an education," Wilson says. "To get a job and have a good life and go to college."

8-year-old Kylon Goodwin will tell you it sure helps having a teacher that you love.

"Miss Click is sweet and nice," Goodwis says, "she is really nice and lets us have our Friday treats."

When Ms. Click steps into her classroom she has two goals to teach and, "To show them that someone really does care for them besides someone in their family. I tell my kids everyday from the first day of school, you can make me as mad as you want I'm still going to love you no matter what. "

That is why Lindsey Click is News19's Golden Apple Award winner.
