Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- A sellout crowd will watch Chad Holbrook make his debut as USC's head baseball coach Friday afternoon when Carolina hosts Liberty.

Holbrook will take over a program that has gone to the last three CWS championship series and he understands the expectations that are in place.

He also understands there will be the inevitable comparisons to the man he replaced. Ray Tanner has now moved into an even bigger office as the Director of Athletics, while Holbrook has moved into the chair that Tanner occupied for 16 seasons.

Holbrook says he will be his own man and while many of Tanner's practice routines are still in place, in the end, Holbrook says there will be differences in the way he coaches with the same goals of winning and doing things the right way continuing to be the cornerstones of the Gamecock program.

Tanner will play a big role in Friday's opener as he will honored in a pre-game ceremony. There is speculation that eventually, the field at Carolina Stadium will be named Ray Tanner Field.
