Columbia, SC (WLTX) - North Columbia is still looking for some help to revitalize Eau Claire.

TuesdayColumbia'seconomic and development committee met to discuss the master plan for North Columbia that's now eight years old.

City council members and some of the community attended the meeting. All were in agreement that having a mixed use area on North Main Street of retail, commercial and residential would be ideal for what they call "Columbia's front door."

City Manager Teresa Wilson did argue that many businesses won't want to move into that part of town, but one long-time resident thinks it's not Eau Claire that's bad for business.

"It's not the area that's driving away business, it's things that happen where people don't make money that drives away businesses, but when you've got areas that really needs small mom and pops shops that people can go sit down and eat then you would have a viable business," said Tommy Burkett of the North Columbia Business Association.

North Columbia's master plan aims to make that part of town pedestrian friendly, promote single family neighborhoods, and revitalize the key corridors of town.
