Sumter County, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County school officials confirm that a 5-year-old child diagnosed with Autism was left on a school bus for four hours on Monday.

District officials say the child got on a bus at 7 a.m. to go to Kingsbury Elementary.

He was supposed to be dropped off at Kingsbury Elementary but fell asleep in the bus. The bus ended up at Sumter High School, where another bus driver later checked the bus and found the boy.

Sumter School district officials would not talk on camera but they tell News19 that the driver and the bus monitor have both been fired for not searching the bus after their route.

The district says it is their policy to check a bus after student get off.

Sumter police are investigating.
