Orangeburg County, SC (WLTX) -An Orangeburg County teacher is accused of punching a student.

Police say 62-year-old Lionel Stukes hit a twelve-year-old girl in the face at Holly Hill-Roberts Middle School on Monday.

The Holly Hill Police Department says an officer responded to the school after the principal called about a student and teacher altercation. The victim told investigators that Stukes balled his fist and hit her near her eye.

The teacher, however, says he was just playing with the girl.

Thestudent'smother says the nurse noticed some redness on her face and that the spot that was hit was tender.

The mother--whodoes not want to be identified--spoke to News19 Wednesday, and saidshe wants the teacher to be fired.

"Who knows what he can do when he goes back and my child has to see him everyday when she passes him," she said. "I think she is kind of scared because when she wakes up she is like I don't want to go to school. I had to call the school and let her hear me say.. that he wasnt going to be there when she comes."

The district superintendent did not comment on this story.
