Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- Lower Richland's success on the basketball court can be traced to the calming force that is senior guard Dayonshe' Mitchell.
Head coach Debbie Stroman says Mitchell's personality has changed over the last few years - from a shy player to one who takes command either in games or practices, but in a way that is not overwhelming to the underclassmen.
In the victory over Orangeburg-Wilkinson in the 3A state finals, Stroman inserted Mitchell into the game when she felt the team needed an experienced leader on the court. Mitchell performed as Stroman expected, knocking down a jumper and making sure the offense was run as instructed.
Mitchell is undecided on a college path, but she knows she wants to major in psychology.
