Clemson has hired UAB's Audra Smith as its new women's basketball coach.
Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich announced the hiring Monday. Smith spent past nine seasons with the Blazers, where she went 138-138.
Smith teams were 57-39 over the past three seasons, however, and finished in the top-50 nationally in scoring defense.
Smith takes over for Itoro Coleman, fired last month after going 25-63 overall and 10-38 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The Blazers went 18-13 this past season. They played in the WNIT, losing in the first round to Auburn.
Smith, a former Virginia assistant, also played at Virginia. She helped Virginia go 113-18 in four seasons, with two ACC championships and three Final Four appearances. One of Smith's teammates at Virginia was South Carolina coach Dawn Staley
