Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- A kid who is entering first grade may not know what his or her favorite sport is - given so many choices that are available.

Dawn Staley is doing her part to introduce youngsters to the game of basketball in a fun and exciting atmospere at the "Little Gamecocks" Camp.

The three-day session is opening to rising first-fifth graders.

"They're so innocent, they're so pure, yet they are so competitive," said Staley who makes sure her staff strikes the proper balance between teaching and making sure the campers are enjoying themselves through various games, drills and prizes for some which are handed out at the end of each session.

Eight-year-old Camryn Hollmon said one of the fundamentals she picked up was the proper to way to deliver a chest pass.

Her 10-year-old sister Courtney says the 5-on-5 games were her favorite part of the camp.

"I learned if you don't succeed, try, try again," said Courtney.

Life lessons are emphasized at the camp where each day, the campers end the session by shouting out the quote of the day in unison.

"Winners never quit," was Tuesday's battle cry from the kids.

Eight-year-old Jacob Arceneauxsays he learned about teamwork and defense.

"You keep playing, even though you may lose, you keep trying," said Jacob.
