Columbia, SC (WLTX) --- When the Columbia Blowfish and the USC Alumni square off Wednesday night at Capital City Stadium, the outcome will be of secondary importance given the serious undertone of the evening.

Thegame will be dedicated to helping former Gamecock Landon Powell and his family.

Powell was a rock behind the plate from 2001-2004 for USC and was a first-round draft pick by Oakland in 2004. Injuries kept him from making his major league debut until 2009. The last few years have seen LP bounce around in the minor leagues but those challenges pale in comparison to what happened in September.

Landon and his wife Allison welcomed a beautiful baby girl named Izzy who bravely fought a five-month battle against a rare disease known as HLH.

Izzy passed away in late January, leaving Landon and his family with overwhelming medical bills.

Wednesday's game will feature several ways that fans can help Landon. A silent auction and bidding on being a first-base coach for an inning and taking a live at-bat as part of a "4th Out" for the USC Alumni are part of the ways people can help out the Powell family.
