(WLTX) --- Tommy Gainey is hoping to follow up Friday's 8-under 64 with another birdie-fest this weekend at the RBC Canadian Open in Ontario.

After a round of 73 on Thursday, Gainey shot up the leaderboard Friday with his 64 and now he currently sits tied for sixth as third round play is underway.

The Bishopville native is at -7, six shots behind leader Hunter Mahan.

Gainey's best finish is a tie for sixth in the season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Kapalua.
